Fernando
Jessica Fernando’s journey bridges continents and cultures. Raised between Zurich and Sri Lanka, Jessica co-founded Mond - a boutique hotel and restaurant on Hiriketiya’s southern coast-with her Swiss husband, Renato Kümin. The name, meaning “moon” in German, reflects the tranquil, magnetic spirit of the space they’ve created.
Mond is shaped by the vision of Zurich-based architects Daniel Abraha and Stephan Achermann, blending Swiss architectural precision with Sri Lankan tropical modernism. The hotel’s open, breezy design-marked by exposed concrete, wooden shutters, and seamless transitions between indoors and out-invites guests to connect with nature and the ocean.
Jessica’s artistry is woven throughout Mond. She personally designs and crafts all the ceramic tableware, ensuring each piece echoes the hotel’s aesthetic and her dedication to craftsmanship. Her background in fashion and jewelry, co-founded with her sister in Switzerland, informs her passion for design and her commitment to working with local artisans and materials.
Beyond Sri Lanka, Jessica and her family have found a second home in Mallorca, drawn to the island’s peaceful rhythm and creative community. Her story is a harmonious blend of Swiss clarity and Sri Lankan warmth-where every detail, from architecture to ceramics, reflects a deep respect for heritage, sustainability, and community.
Jessica wears the Black Batiste Cotton Payés Blouse and matching Black Batiste Cotton Ruffle Skirt. Later, she wears the Lemon Butter Dupion Paul Blouse paired first with the Rose Quartz Dupion Pareo Skirt, and then with the Lemon Butter Dupion Pareo Skirt. Next she wears the Fluorite Pink Silk Ava Dress, and lastly the Black Silk Ava Dress.
