Florence
D´Olivier
Florence De L’ Olivier is a multifaceted artist whose work embodies a deep connection to the earth and the unseen. Born to a German-Caribbean heritage and raised amidst the vibrant landscapes of Mallorca, Florence's journey has been one of exploration and creativity. Her academic pursuit in textile design took her to Lyon, France, where she honed her skills over five years.
Now, Florence finds herself navigating between the bustling energy of London and the tranquil beauty of Mallorca, having spent a few years back on the island that she calls home.
Florence's artistic expression is diverse; she identifies as an artist, image and object maker, photographer, and creative director. Her work delves into the magical and mystical, exploring themes of how magic is an intrinsic part of our lives and our profound connection to the earth.
Her mediums are as varied as her themes, including analog photography, video, sculpture with natural elements like earth, paper, clay, seeds, rocks, shells, and fibers, as well as knitwear. Her aesthetic is both ancestral and fantastical, drawing inspiration from ancient knowledge and the origins of time.
This reverence for the past is complemented by new passions that have emerged over the last four years. Florence is deeply interested in the transformative journey of motherhood, exploring concepts of free birth, wild pregnancy, and the empowerment of women through birth. She aspires to integrate these themes into her artistic practice and is considering becoming a doula to further this exploration. Her passion for connecting with the earth extends to her interest in herbalism, where she seeks to deepen her understanding of ancestral knowledge.
At 29, Florence is experiencing her Saturn return, a period of significant personal growth and reflection. An intriguing aspect of her creative journey is her exploration of shoemaking using natural materials. This practice ties into her belief in grounding, emphasizing the physical and spiritual connection between humans and the earth.Florence De L’ Olivier's work is a testament to the power of art to bridge the seen and unseen, the past and present, and the personal and universal. Through her diverse mediums and themes, she invites us to explore the magic that resides within and around us.
We met Florence at her beautiful studio-home in Deia, Mallorca where she lives with her boyfriend Will. At home she wears the Piedra Heavy Linen Vest with the White Linen Ruffle Skirt, later the Quartz Rose Dupion Silk Senso Blazer and matching Wrap Mini Skirt. Lastly we enter her pink studio where she wears the Rose Quartz Silk Dupion Vest along with the matching Ruffle Skirt but this time in Dupion Silk (Raw Silk).
