CAROLINE
CORBASSON
You might remember Caroline as one of the first Datura collaborators, she made some beautiful drawings for our collection ‘Maatmons' (a volcano on Planet Venus), and stone drawings that we printed on a Limited Edition Organic Sweater capsule.
Caroline is currently represented by Galerie Laurence Bernard and Monteverita, Caroline Corbasson is a young French artist. Born in 1989 in Saint- Etienne, she now lives and works in Paris.
Caroline's focused education began with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins School in London, she then got her honors graduate from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Paris, in 2013. Caroline Corbasson's art is inspired by the sciences, astronomy, natural phenomena and vast landscapes, she frees images from their context and objects from their functionality to extract their essence and redesign their reliefs. The economy of means, the density of the pictures and the rigorous choice of materials (coal, dust, ink, graphite) that characterize her production convey an aspiration to resist the endless rows of images that surround us. Her relationship to time and space is as free and singular as the media in which she expresses it. Her drawings, sculptures, videos and installation appear as images that carry a rereading of the world envisaged in an ontological and poetic perspective.
Caroline's work has been presented and exhibited in France and Internationally in many institutions such as 'Cité Internationale des Arts' (FR) on the 'First Drawing Biennial, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle (UK), 'Songwon Art Center of Seoul (KR), Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris (FR), Crac Séte (FR), Centre D’Art du Pavillon Blanc, Colomiers (FR) and CAC, Nîmes (FR). In 2017, she directed her first short film, set at Paranal Observatory in the Atacama Desert with the support of the CNRS and the Laboratoire D’Astrophysique de Marseille.
We shot Caroline at her studio in Paris wearing our Blue Moon Slip Dress and The Night Blue Trench Coat.
