Adriana Meunié
We visited Adriana at her home and studio in Mallorca.
Adriana is a textile artist. She originally studied fashion design in Barcelona, but quickly realized the fast paced industry did not suit her. She was drawn strictly to the physical materials instead. In 2014, she returned to her native Mallorca and shifted her focus entirely to textile art.
Her current work began by chance. She saw raw wool resting on a chair in a traditional Mallorcan home and was struck by its heavy, ancient texture. She asked a local shepherd for a small sample to experiment with. The next day, he arrived with a tractor full of discarded wool. They traded it for a bottle of wine, and Adriana decided to give the material a new purpose.
Today, she creates large scale tapestries and textile installations. She works primarily with raw and local fibers: wool she helps shear, esparto, raffia, and native grasses. She describes her aesthetic as a "monstrous elegance." Her goal is to take wild volumes and present them in a clean and structural way, balancing the raw with the refined.
Her studio sits on the top floor of the rustic home she shares with her partner, ceramicist Jaume Roig. The room was historically used to store grain and local produce. Now, it is a quiet, uncluttered workspace where she keeps her natural materials visible and within reach.
Through her pieces, Adriana brings the island's rural landscape inside. She preserves ancient local crafts and the physical reality of the countryside, highlighting a side of Mallorca that exists far beyond its beaches.
Adriana wears the Caramel Dupion Carmen Dress layered under the Rose Quartz Dupion Paul Blouse, and later, the matching Black Batiste Cotton Payes Blouse and Tae Pants. She styles the Almond Striped Babel Dress over the White Linen Ruffle Skirt, eventually pairing the same skirt with the Piedra Heavy Linen Senso Blazer. Lastly, she wears the Piedra Heavy Linen Judo Pants paired again with the Rose Quartz Dupion Paul Blouse.
